HOME COOKING SPURS EMOTIONAL WIN FOR BACK
Brian Back Interview - Lyle Nowak Interview - Tyler Bauknecht Interview 
MARSHFIELD, Wis. (August 28, 2010) – One quote summed up the past month for Brian Back and his hunger to visit victory lane. “This one’s for you Grandpa Jim.”
Carrying the number 61 to honor his late grandfather, the third-generation Back bested Mid-American Stock Car Series action Saturday at Marshfield Motor Speedway.
“By the time I pulled into victory lane thoughts of my grandfather came to my mind,” Back said. “He meant a lot to me and my family. It was definitely a tribute to him tonight.”
The win was Back’s second straight at his home venue where he has claimed several track championships in the super stock division. Just as it was in July of 2008, the checkered flag was accompanied by fast time. Back has now set fast time in all six MASCS events that have awarded points for qualifying.
“I really don’t have a good explanation other than we’ve had a lot of success with qualifying through my whole career,” Back explained. “It’s just carrying on in the Mid-American Stock Car Series fortunately.”
While qualifying has been his strong suit in 2010, quick times have also acted as an Achilles Heel for Back. Inverts have placed Back in the middle of strong feature fields all season long. An invert of the top 11 qualifiers again put Back behind some strong machines in the 40-lap main event.
Two of Back’s strongest competitors tore through the 25-car starting field in the early portions of the feature event. With plenty of side-by-side racing through the pack, Lyle Nowak and Bill Prietzel picked through the top ten utilizing the inside line through the first five laps. Nowak found his way into the third spot, with Prietzel right behind in fifth.
By lap seven Nowak and Prietzel were racing side by side behind the leaders. Gregg Haese and Max Schultz, who had been locked in battle since carrying the field to green, immediately felt pressure from the veteran duo. Only two laps later Prietzel and Nowak began to search for ways past the frantic battle for the lead.
Prietzel found his break exiting turn four on the ninth lap. Haese pushed up exiting the final turn and made contact with Schultz. As the two scrambled to save their racers from certain disaster Prietzel seized the inside line and motored to the lead at the start/finish line.

MID-AMERICAN BRINGS BACK ‘DASH FOR THE DUEL’
Hankscraft to Donate to Feature As Well
FORT ATKINSON, Wis. (August 14, 2010) – The Mid-American Stock Car Series will again run an additional race to the September Showdown at Dells Raceway Park on Saturday, Sept. 11. The Hankscraft Inc. Dash for the Duel presented by Wintergreen Resort and Conference Center will determine the overall winner of the Dells Duels which were run on May 29 and July 24.
With an intent to reward the drivers who appear in, and run well in both Dells Duel races, the eight-car, ten-lap shootout will be run either as a third heat or a separate race after the September Showdown feature event. Brian Back was victorious last year capturing the extra cash from Hankscraft Inc., and several additional perks from Wintergreen.
Six drivers have been deemed eligible due to strong runs in both DRP events. Mark Pluer, Bill Prietzel, Tyler Bauknecht, Lyle Nowak, Adam Bendzick and Scott Null have the six best average finishes among MASCS drivers, and will be offered a berth.
As it was in 2009, the lineup will be determined by best overall finish in the first two races. Pluer, with an average finish of 1.5, will lead the field to the green flag alongside Prietzel.
New for 2010 will be an expanded wild card vote. Last season Mike Lichtfeld and Troy Shear accumulated over 400 votes for the wild card spot. Due to that competition, Mid-American has decided to expand the wild card to six eligible drivers with two being voted into the dash.
Drivers eligible for the wild card were the sixth through 12th best average finishers. They are: Jeremy Spoonmore, Jeremy Bloomberg, Jacob Finney, Mike Lichtfeld, Brian Back and Tom McClintock.
Fans can e-mail their vote to MIDAMERICANFANINFO@yahoo.com. Only one vote per e-mail address will be counted. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 4, one week before the event. The two wild card winners will be announced on the following Wednesday on the MASCS Web site.
“We’re really excited that Hankscraft and Wintergreen have decided to partner with us for this event again,” said MASCS co-owner Doug Strasburg. “There was a lot of great feedback from the event last year, and we’re very honored that we can bring it back to DRP.”

MID-AMERICAN TO SANCTION ANOTHER DIRT RACE IN 2010
Grand Nationals Welcome Again
FORT ATKINSON, Wis. (July 28, 2010) – Bill Prietzel and Don Source raced side-by-side to the checkered flag, the crowd stood on their feet to see who would win the first Mid-American Stock Car Series race on the clay, and the promoter – impressed.
Dan Thiel of STM Promotions was so impressed by the MASCS Big Clay Clash for Cash on July 2 that he knew he wanted the series back. In fact he wasted no time heading to the pit area to discuss a second date with series owners Doug and Julie Strasburg.
The Strasburgs agreed, and Mid-American will head back to Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday, Sept. 3 for the Big Clay Labor Day Challenge. The event will not award points, just as in July.
“I think (Mid-American) was my best feature of the night. They put on one heck of a show,” Thiel said. “There was competition all the way around and I was very impressed.”
Adding another date in the middle of the season is difficult for a series to do, Doug Strasburg said. However, with the success of the first event and the same high-end payoff, Strasburg said Mid-American would like to present the drivers with another opportunity to play in the clay for some extra cash.
“Julie and I were a little unsure about agreeing to the show at first, but we got some really good feedback on the first event, and really enjoyed working with Dan and his group,” Strasburg said.
A little encouragement from Thiel didn’t hurt. “One thing led to another and I wanted them back and I want to make it bigger and better,” he said. “We want to make this a big thing for following years.”

ROOKIE BAUKNECHT OUTGUNS TWO FORMER CHAMPS IN DELLS DUEL TWO

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (July 24, 2010) – A total of four championships couldn’t cause Tyler Bauknecht to flinch. The Mid-American Stock Car Series rookie picked up his first series win at Dells Raceway Park Saturday night by holding off Bill Prietzel and Mark Pluer on a late restart.
Before Bauknecht had the opportunity to fend off Prietzel and Pluer, he was locked in an early side-by-side battle with the defending DRP winner. The second-generation MASCS driver gave Pluer the dreaded outside line, where the 1996 champ was unable to capitalize.
“I saw him in my rearview mirror. He was going to the outside, and I just told myself that I wasn’t going to let him get around me on the outside,” Bauknecht said. “I just kept running as hard as I could. I left nothing out there.”
The duel began after Bauknecht took advantage of the pole position to dispose of Chris Ratajczyk. With the door open, Pluer immediately slid into the runner-up spot. Pluer took only four circuits before he jumped to the high line.
In search of his second consecutive win at the Dells, and third in four starts, Pluer slowly pulled even with Bauknecht. On lap six Pluer put his nose ahead and was scored as the leader. Bauknecht had a rebuttal in store and stormed back on the inside line. After creeping back on the low line for three circuits, Bauknecht forced Pluer to tuck back in line behind him.
“I had to get him early if I could get him,” Pluer said. “I actually had the position once, but I couldn’t take it away. He charged back and took it back. I had nothing for him after that.”
As Pluer started to lose ground to Bauknecht, and with Ratajczyk riding in third, a frantic battle ensued for the chance to challenge the top three. Prietzel, Adam Bendzick and Mike Lichtfeld swapped the high and low lines in a four-lap dispute. Clinging to the bottom, Prietzel would not allow either Bendzick or Lichtfeld to swipe the spot down low. Bendzick won the battle with Lichtfeld and continued to pressure Prietzel.
